Angela Rayner: The heart-wrenching moment she was told her son wouldn't make it

Rayner's son, Charlie, was born with a rare genetic condition

The Labour MP has spoken about the challenges of raising a child with special needs

Angela Rayner has revealed that her son, Charlie, was born with a rare genetic condition that doctors said was not compatible with life.

In an interview with The Guardian, Rayner said that she was told that Charlie would not make it through the night when he was born.

"It was the most heart-wrenching moment of my life," Rayner said. "I just couldn't believe that this was happening to me."

Charlie is now 10 years old and has defied the odds to survive. However, he requires round-the-clock care and has a number of complex medical needs.

Rayner said that raising a child with special needs has been a "huge challenge" but that she is determined to give Charlie the best possible life.

"He's such a happy little boy and he brings so much joy to our lives," Rayner said. "I wouldn't change a thing about him."

Rayner's story is a reminder of the challenges faced by parents of children with special needs. It is also a story of hope and resilience.
